Report: NFL suspends Johnny Manziel four games

Johnny Manziel

It might not matter in the grand scheme of things, but the NFL has reportedly suspended free agent quarterback Johnny Manziel four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

In reality, Manziel likely won’t be finding himself on the football field any time soon. Until he gets his house in order off the field, no team is going to show interest in his services.

But when that does happen, the former Heisman winner will be facing a four-game suspension.

The laundry list of off-field issues that have plagued Manziel since he became a first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns back in 2014 are too large to list.

The embattled signal caller checked himself into an alcohol rehabilitation program following his rookie season. Unfortunately, that did nothing to keep Manziel sober.

Since the end of this past season, Johnny Football has been seen partying up and down North America, his latest escapades taking place in Mexico.

He’s also facing domestic violence charges stemming from an incident with ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley back in January.

The TMZ article reporting Manziel’s suspension indicates that it has nothing to do with performance enhancing drugs or his latest legal issues. Instead, it stems from a positive test relating to recreational drugs.

The NFL will still likely come down on Manziel for his domestic violence situation, which could add more issues to a potential comeback attempt.

For his part, Manziel has promised that he will get sober starting on July 1st. If that’s the case, maybe he can get the help he needs. Until then, we should all be worried about his well-being.
