LeBron James is reportedly working the phones in no small way to see which upcoming free agents might be willing to join him, either in Cleveland or on a new team.

Mark Hesler of the Orange Country Register shared a comment made by an Eastern Conference general manager, who said, “LeBron is doing what we does — calling players on other teams he wants to play with.”

It’s widely assumed that James will decline the player option on his current contract to become a free agent. However, it’s no secret that the Cavaliers want to keep him, regardless, and it’s been rumored that James would prefer to remain in Cleveland, too.

That said, other reports, such as this one suggesting the Los Angeles Lakers are trying to team LeBron James up with Chris Paul, make it clear that Cleveland will have plenty of heated competition to keep him.

Additionally, considering how much James’ production company has ramped up efforts to become a legitimate force in the entertainment industry, Los Angeles is a logical destination for King James.

It’s going to be fascinating to see where this all goes in the coming weeks. Whichever team does land James better be comfortable with him calling the shots, at least to a certain extent. And that, at this point, is all we really know for sure.
