New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman has been dealing with a leg injury he sustained at the beginning of training camp, and he might not be ready for Week 1 of the 2015 NFL regular season.
Speaking on the progress of his timetable to return, Edelman shared his status for the opening game. Per Joe McDonald of ESPN, Edelman said:
“Ask (coach) Bill (Belichick). I’m taking it day-by-day and I think I’m 10 seconds better than the last 10 seconds, so we’re good.”
Edelman injured his leg on Aug. 2 and has since been limited to mental reps. According to Jeff Howe of The Boston Herald, the “feeling” is that Edelman is close to returning. New England definitely needs him in the lineup.
The Patriots are already without running back LeGarrette Blount and, unless a suspension is overturned, quarterback Tom Brady for the matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Additionally, wide receiver Brandon LeFell’s status is unclear due to a foot injury.
Possibly adding Edelman to this list makes the name Reggie Wayne looking pretty appealing in the Patriots lineup.
