Report: John Fox Could be Fired if the Broncos Lose Sunday

In a bit of surprising news reported by Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer, the Denver Broncos could potentially fire head coach John Fox should the team see a premature exit from the playoffs Sunday afternoon against the Indianapolis Colts.

Glazer first reported the news on Fox’s pregame show ahead of the Dallas Cowboys-Green Bay Packers NFC Divisional Playoff matchup.

This comes mere months after the Broncos extended Fox on a three-year, $16.5 million contract.

It remains to be seen whether this could be an indication that Peyton Manning is also leaning towards hanging his cleats up after the playoffs. While the veteran has indicated he plans on returning next year, it makes little sense that he would without the coach who was one of the primary reasons he signed with the Broncos back in 2012.

However, this makes some sense in that Denver has two coordinators, both younger than Fox, that are getting play as potential head coaches in other cities. Both offensive coordinator Adam Gase and defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio have interviewed for head coaching vacancies over the past couple weeks.

Fox is 46-18 in four seasons as the Broncos head coach and has led the team to the playoffs each year. If he were to be fired, it would be a potential game-changer for other teams currently looking to hire a head coach.

We will stay on top of this story as more information becomes available.
