Joe Thomas is still under contract with the Cleveland Browns and has yet to decide whether to play football in 2018 or do something else. If he chooses to do something else, FOX Sports would likely be very interested in landing him for the upcoming NFL season, based on a report.
According to Andrew Marchand of the New York Post, Thomas and John Fox both auditioned for the network recently, and Thomas was “particularly impressive” during his audition.
Thomas has already been dabbling in media, having done some work with the Browns this past season and participated in ESPN’s “Car Wash” this offseason, which Marchand notes, “often is used as a tryout of sorts, so don’t rule out Bristol.”
Anyone who has paid close attention to Thomas in recent years knows he’s absolutely cut out for television. He has an engaging personality and is a natural in front of a camera. So, if he retires, he could easily transition into the broadcasting side of things.
However, Thomas seems to still have the itch to play, and he will be paid more than any other offensive tackle in 2018 if he does play.
It’s going to be interesting to see what he ultimately decides to do. Thomas has said in the recent past that he’s already dealing with memory-loss issues that likely have to do with football. So that’s likely weighing on his mind as he ponders his future.
