Report: Indians sign All-Star Edwin Encarnacion

One of the most-coveted free agents of the 2016-17 class has found a home. According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, Edwin Encarnacion will be joining the Cleveland Indians.

He reported that the deal was for three years, with an option on the fourth, for roughly $20 million per year.

Encarnacion had been a member of the Toronto Blue Jays since 2009. In 2016, he slugged 42 home runs, drove in an American League high 127 runs and slashed at .263/.357/.529.

He will be 34 on opening day in 2017 and figures to bat in the middle of the lineup for the American League champs, likely replacing fellow free agent Mike Napoli.
