Report: ‘Guarded optimism’ Andrew Luck ready for Week 1

After general manager expressed concern for Andrew Luck’s availability for Week 1 with a high-ankle issue, it now appears the Indianapolis Colts have a little more optimism for Luck’s return.

According to Chris Mortensen, Indianapolis now has guarded optimism that Luck will be able to return for the team’s regular season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 8.

Indianapolis desperately needs Luck behind center for every game if it’s going to compete for a playoff spot this season. Luck showed last season that he can be one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks when healthy and he can carry this offense to dominance.

Durability remains a concern for Luck. He was sidelined earlier in the offseason with a lingering calf injury and only played seven games in 2015.
