Report: Giants working out Wes Welker and Hakeem Nicks

The New York Giants are reportedly having receivers Wes Welker and Hakeem Nicks in for workouts on Tuesday.

Josina Anderson of ESPN has the scoop here.

It’s also been reported that tight end Chris Cooley will be in attendance for these workouts.

That Nicks would come in for a workout isn’t surprising, given his history with the Giants.

However, the fact that Welker is also joining him is particularly noteworthy. We haven’t heard anything about him in quite some time, ever since early June when the New England Patriots made it clear he wasn’t going to be coming back.

Welker is one of the most productive slot receivers in the NFL when healthy, and he was cleared this summer for football contact after suffering a trio of concussions in a short amount of time in 2014.

The Giants bring in players all the time for workouts, so this might not amount to anything. With that said, Welker hasn’t worked out for any teams that we’re aware of, which could mean the Giants are serious about seeing what kind of tread he still has on his tires, so to speak.
