The Tennessee Titans decided not to re-sign linebacker Colin McCarthy, and after a couple months of without a football home, the 27-year-old has elected to retire.

The Titans picked McCarthy in the fourth round of the 2011 draft, and he compiled a solid rookie season of 68 total tackles. It appeared McCarthy was a key piece of Tennessee’s future, but injuries derailed that thought.
A two-time All-ACC honoree at the University of Miami, McCarthy missed the 2014 season following shoulder surgery. He sustained ankle and hamstring injuries throughout his career, appearing in just 36 of 64 possible outings.
McCarthy finishes his NFL days with 161 total tackles, three interceptions and three forced fumbles. He was named NFL Rookie of the Week once.
In addition to McCarthy’s inability to stay healthy, the Titans’ switch to a 3-4 base defense sealed his fate with the organization. At best, the linebacker was a reserve piece.
McCarthy visited the New England Patriots when free agency began on March 10 but ultimately left without a contract.
