In what can’t be considered too much of a surprise, the Philadelphia Eagles have notified former Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles that they will pick up the $20 million option on his contract for the 2019 season.

This possibility had been reported for some time now. In no way does it mean the 30-year-old quarterback will be back with Philadelphia next season.
He can get out from under said contract by paying back $2 million of his signing bonus from last season.
If that were to come to fruition, the Eagles would then likely place the franchise tag on Foles in hopes of trading him.
A career journeyman, Foles has resurrected his career since rejoining his original Eagles team prior to the 2017 season. He’s posted a 6-2 regular-season record over the past two seasons — leading Philadelphia to a surprise Super Bowl title in February of 2018.
