As the New Orleans Saints prepare for another playoff run with quarterback Drew Brees, both the organization and the future Hall of Famer reportedly expect the partnership to last beyond this season.

While Brees is set to become a free agent this offseason, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports that 40-year-old quarterback wants to remain with the Saints and both sides expect to figure out a deal after the season ends.

As Rapoport notes, this is a situation Brees has been in with previously with the Saints. He received a one-year extension before the 2016 season when he had a year remaining on his deal. Brees later signed a two-year, $50 million contract with New Orleans in 2018.

In a worst-case scenario, if both sides can’t reach an agreement early, New Orleans would then reportedly place the franchise tag on Brees.

While some have speculated that Brees could retire if he wins Super Bowl LIV, it appears his competitive fire remains and will be just as strong entering his age-41 season next summer.
