While the San Antonio Spurs may be looking to trade Kawhi Leonard, the All-Star forward might already have his future set on the Los Angeles Lakers.
ESPN’s Zach Lowe reports there are “deep suspicions” around the NBA that Leonard is locked in on the legendary franchise.
The Spurs haven’t given any indication they are actively pursuing a trade, and head coach Gregg Popovich recently met with Leonard to discuss the situation. San Antonio could offer him a five-year, $219 million “supermax” deal, and money often talks.
However, the Lakers are the early Vegas favorite for landing Leonard. They boast an impressive group of young — and movable talent — in some combination of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma and Josh Hart.
But if Leonard — who would be an unrestricted free agent next summer if he doesn’t sign an extension — is already set on joining the franchise, the Lakers could be patient and hope to add him in July 2019.
