The Chicago Cubs are looking to upgrade their starting rotation at the trade deadline. To get that upgrade, they’re reportedly interested in Toronto Blue Jays lefty, J.A. Happ.

Happ figures to be one of the best pitchers available at the deadline, especially if the New York Mets are indeed unwilling to move Jacob deGrom or Noah Syndergaard. In 18 starts in 2018, Happ has a 10-5 record with a 4.44 ERA and 1.18 WHIP.
The Cubs can certainly use the upgrade. Their starters have a 3.92 ERA and 1.36 WHIP, which rank 13th and 22nd in MLB, respectively. In general, Chicago has also struggled to get any consistency in the starting rotation after ace Jon Lester.
If the Cubs were to make this deal, Happ would likely fit in somewhere in the middle of the Chicago rotation.
