Report: Cowboys players have issue with predictable playbook

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has given a vote of confidence to head coach Jason Garrett as the team closes up shop on what has been a disappointing 2017 season.

While Garrett’s job appears to be safe, there will be a lot of changes to the Cowboys’ roster this offseason. Even if that does improve the talent level on this squad, some members of the Cowboys apparently have issues with what’s being described as a “predictable playbook.”

On one hand, good teams have success while running plays every opponent knows are coming. The New England Patriots and their Erhardt-Perkins Offense are a prime example of this.

On the other hand, a predictable playbook doesn’t necessarily enhance a team’s ability for success on the field. Defenses will scheme specifically to stop certain plays, leading to a negative end result.

Whether the feelings of these Cowboys players will impact offensive coordinator Scott Linehan’s future in Dallas remains to be seen. He’s the primary play-caller, not Garrett. And the 2017 season has not gone too swimmingly from this aspect.

At 8-7 on the season, Dallas heads into Week 17 ranked 12th in scoring offense. This is a far cry from the No. 5 ranking last season.
