Report: Celtics talking with Rockets about Clint Capela trade

Clint Capela trade

The Houston Rockets have been engaging with Eastern Conference teams about the possibility of trading star center Clint Capela ahead of Thursday’s deadline.

While the Atlanta Hawks have been bandied about the most, this report from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski suggests that the Boston Celtics are also in on Capela talks.

If we were to assume for a second that Houston wants proven talent back, we’re not sure how the Celtics align as a potential fit.

Capela is playing under a five-year, $90 million contract he signed back in July of 2018. Currently hard capped, Boston would need salaries to match in order to pull off a trade of this ilk.

For his part, Capela has been absolutely tremendous this season. The 25-year-old center is averaging 13.9 points and 13.8 rebounds on 63% shooting from the field. He’s posted 27 double doubles in 39 games.
