Report: Buffalo Bills release Fred Jackson

Ever since the Buffalo Bills signed running back LeSean McCoy, many believed Fred Jackson’s days in western New York could be numbered.

According to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, Jackson was released by the Bills on Monday after eight years of service to the team. Jackson’s best season with the Bills was in 2009 where he rushed for 1,062 yards. Over the course of Jackson’s career, he totaled 5,646 rushing yards 2,640 receiving yards and 87 combined touchdowns.

Unfortuntately entering into training camp, Jackson sat in a crowded backfield of younger backs including Bryce Brown, Booby Dixon and Karlos Williams. With the Bills planning to have McCoy carry the ball 300-plus times this season, Jackson with his $2.35 million salary for 2015 was the odd man out.

The 34-year old back looks better on film than some younger backs in the league, and he surely has a shot at playing with another team. Seeing Jackson suiting up in another uniform will be a hard pill for die-hard Bills fans to swallow, though.
