Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields will return Sunday after missing four games with a right thumb injury, NFL Network reported Wednesday.
Fields will test his grip strength at Wednesday’s practice. If all goes well, Fields will start for the Bears (3-7) on Sunday at the Detroit Lions (7-2).
Fields, 24, has been sidelined since sustaining a dislocated thumb on his throwing hand in a Week 6 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Oct. 15.
Fields is 1-5 as a starter this season, completing 61.7 percent of his passes for 1,201 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions. He has rushed for 237 yards and a touchdown and has been sacked 24 times.
Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent relieved Fields in the Minnesota game and is 2-2 as a starter in his absence. He has completed 65.7 percent of his passes for 859 yards with three touchdowns and six interceptions.
