Report: 49ers will sign Weston Richburg

The San Francisco 49ers need to build an offense around Jimmy Garoppolo, and they’re fortifying the offensive line with Weston Richburg.

Formerly of the New York Giants, Richburg will sign a five-year contract in San Francisco, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Colorado State product was a second-round pick of the Giants in 2014, and he immediately bolstered the trenches. Richburg started 47 of 48 regular-season games during his first three seasons, though a concussion limited him to four appearances.

Despite that issue, it’s a quality move for the 49ers and an enormous loss on a New York roster that already needed offensive linemen. The Giants now must address the blocking unit elsewhere in free agency and during the draft.
