Coming off a 1,000-yard season with the Cleveland Browns, new Washington Redskins wide receiver Terrelle Pryor sought to be paid big time this offseason.
He was reportedly demanding $10-plus million per season prior to ultimately signing a one-year, prove-it deal valued at $6 million.
The quarterback-turned-wide receiver hasn’t necessarily fit in well with his new team and was benched during Monday’s loss against the Philadelphia Eagles. In fact, Pryor didn’t start the game and saw a grand total of 30 snaps en route to recording two receptions for 14 yards.
While refraining from throwing his team and teammates under the bus, Pryor seemed a bit confused over the demotion.
“I don’t know,” Pryor said when asked why he didn’t start, via ESPN. “Josh (Doctson) is great. He’s a talented player. We have talented receivers. I know coach Jay wanted to get Josh involved more. … We believe in coach, believe in how he coaches us and whatever he says goes. I don’t have any questions. You’re not going to see any animosity or see me angry or whatever.”
Redskins head coach Jay Gruden had made it clear heading into the week that he wanted to see former first-round pick Josh Doctson get more action. No one really thought it would be in lieu of the team’s No. 1 receiver heading into the season.
Now through the first six games of the season, Pryor has caught 18 passes for just 223 yards and one score. He also boasts a low 54.5 catch percentage. For comparison’s sake, Kirk Cousins is completing 71 percent of his attempts to other Redskins pass catchers.
Pryor might have bet on himself during free agency. But it doesn’t look like he’s done himself any favors thus far with the Redskins. At the very least, he’s keeping it classy with his comments.
