The New York Red Bulls on Friday terminated the contract of defender Tom Edwards, who was on loan from Stoke City in his native England.

Edwards, 23, will now join Barnsley, which is currently operating in England’s third division.

“We would like to thank Tom for his time with the club,” Red Bulls sporting director Denis Hamlett said in a release. “We wish him and his family all the best in the future — both on and off the pitch.”

In 47 games (44 starts) with the Red Bulls over two seasons, Edwards had three assists. He has not been in a game since a 4-3 victory over Austin FC on July 24, missing the last seven contests.

New York also mutually agreed to terminate the contract of forward Tyler Pasher. The Red Bulls had selected Pasher off waivers from the Houston Dynamo earlier this month, but he never suited up for the team.
