Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz will have an MRI on Wednesday for a groin injury.
He was pulled from Tuesday’s 4-1 win against the Miami Marlins in the third inning and was not in the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale.
“Good sign that he woke up feeling the same as yesterday, felt no worse,” manager Kevin Cash said Wednesday, per Bally Sports Florida. “Fingers crossed that he’s going to avoid the IL (injured list). Generally he recovers pretty quick.”
A first-time All-Star this season, Diaz leads the American League in on-base percentage (.401).
Diaz, 31, ranks second in the AL with a .318 batting average and has 14 homers and 49 RBIs through 86 games.
He is a career .284 hitter with 53 homers and 247 RBIs in 558 games with Cleveland (2017-18) and Tampa Bay.
