According to a report by Evan Sernoffsky of the San Francisco Chronicle, Ray McDonald’s home was burglarized when the San Francisco 49ers were in Arizona playing the Cardinals.
A burglar broke into the San Jose home of 49ers’ defensive lineman Ray McDonald Saturday night while he was in Arizona preparing for Sunday’s matchup against the Cardinals.
McDonald’s name continues to be in the news for all the wrong reasons. He was arrested back in August on suspicion of domestic violence against his fiancee. With all the criticism the NFL has received during for its handling of domestic violence over the past month or so, there have been calls for McDonald to be benched. He he has yet to be charged in the incident.
With all that said, this doesn’t appear to be a targeted burglary by someone seeking out revenge. Neighbors at the scene on Monday morning indicated to reporters that there have been similar break-ins in the neighborhood recently.
According to the San Jose Police Department, several items were stolen from McDondald’s house. This is the latest incident in a string of burglaries targeting professional athletes. As has been the case with similar situations in the past, it’s likely that the individual who broke into McDonald’s home knew he was going to be away with the team on a road trip in Arizona.
