Most teams around the National Football League have their coaching staffs already filled out less than one month until the start of free agency and the new league year.
Those who don’t are either taking it slowly or attempting to circumvent the rule book (see the Cleveland Browns).
As it relates to the Rams, they are obviously struggling finding coaches on the offensive side of the ball. Shortly after reaching for Frank Cignetti (promoted from quarterbacks coach) to be the offensive coordinator, reports are now indicating that St. Louis is going to interview former NFL quarterback Jeff Garcia for the quarterbacks coach job on Thursday.
Garcia may not be the sexiest of choices here, but he has worked with a ton of quarterbacks in the past. While not necessarily in the form of a formal coaching job in the NFL, Garcia does run a quarterback school and was the Montreal Alouettes (Canadian Football League) quarterbacks coach last season.
Earlier this year, Garcia even reached out to San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick to tudor the suddenly struggling signal caller. However, Kaepernick opted to work with Kurt Warner.
Garcia obviously has the drive to coach in the NFL, but the situation in St. Louis would be less-than-ideal for an inexperienced coach. Sam Bradford is coming off his second torn ACL in as many years and will have to take a massive pay cut to remain with the team. Meanwhile, both Austin Davis (restricted) and Shaun Hil (unrestricted) are set to become free agents next month.
