The Oakland Raiders franchise is nearing a move to Sin City, and the soon-to-be-built stadium will also serve as host for the Las Vegas Bowl.
According to college football reporter Brett McMurphy, the bowl will shift from UNLV’s Sam Boyd Stadium to the home of the Raiders in 2020.
That’s the expected inaugural year of the venue.
Since 2001, the Las Vegas Bowl has typically pitted a Pac-12 school against a Mountain West program. However, McMurphy notes the SEC is the favorite to replace the Mountain West when the game moves locations.
The only previous season an SEC team ventured to Las Vegas was in 2000, when Arkansas lost 31-14 to UNLV.
