The plane carrying the Michigan men’s basketball team aborted takeoff and slid off the runway on Wednesday afternoon. ABC News reports that the plane “sustained extensive damage” but nobody was hurt.

We can all be thankful that nobody was hurt. This brings to mind the 1960 Los Angeles Lakers, whose plane had an emergency landing in a cornfield in Carroll, Iowa after running out of fuel. Thankfully, the Wolverines were not in the air when this potential disaster occurred.
Michigan plays its first game in the Big 10 tournament tomorrow, against the Illinois Fighting Illini.
