NFL rumors: Pittsburgh Steelers taking hard look at specific QB as surprise potential first round pick?

The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly taking a hard look at an intriguing quarterback prospect as a potential pick in Round 1 of the NFL Draft.

For the second straight season, the Steelers finished the year with a rock-solid 10-7 record. However, the positive results hid the issue the team has at the quarterback position. This time last year, Pittsburgh surprisingly added both Justin Fields and Russell Wilson to their QB room for 2024.

While the decision to bring in two veteran signal callers who could start was met with surprise, both played last season and had mostly positive impacts. However, they were also playing to boost their value for a jump into NFL free agency this month and Fields has already taken his talents elsewhere. And there is a real chance Wilson could do the same soon as well.

That is why the organization has been looking at the potential QB options in next month’s NFL Draft. On Monday night, a new report revealed one player they are taking a hard look at, and it could be with their first pick in the NFL Draft.

Pittsburgh Steelers taking a hard look at Alabama star Jalen Milroe?

“Former Alabama QB Jalen Milroe had dinner tonight in Tuscaloosa with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, GM Omar Khan, and QBs coach Tom Arth ahead of his pro day, per source,” NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reported on X. “Pittsburgh, which continues to explore all options at the QB position, owns the No. 21 pick in April’s draft.”

Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are seen as the top two QBs in this year’s class. Ole Miss star Jaxson Dart has also made a case in recent weeks to be a potential first-round pick. However, the Alabama star is viewed as a player that will likely be selected after Round 2. The main reason is despite being very athletic, with a strong arm he has major issues with his accuracy.

  • Jalen Milroe stats (2024): 2,844 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 726 rushing yards, 20 rushing touchdowns

Taking him in the third round or later would make sense for the Pittsburgh Steelers. But would a dinner with the head coach, GM, and QBs coach be necessary for a player that would be selected that far into the event? Maybe. But it certainly gives vibes that Milroe may be under consideration for Round 1.
