The Pittsburgh Steelers‘ quarterback room is starting to gain more clarity by the day. We know Justin Fields won’t be returning after the dual-threat former first-round pick joined the New York Jets on a two-year contract worth up to $40 million.

Former Super Bowl winner Russell Wilson remains available, yet the Steelers are busy pursuing other options. Heck, they’ve even brought Mason Rudolph back to resume his role as a backup instead. Yet, what about the starter? The Steelers could be closing in on their guy.

On Friday, the Pittsburgh Steelers met with four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers for an estimated six hours. Rodgers has only been linked to the Steelers, New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings.

Since word of Rodgers’ Pittsburgh visit broke, we’ve seen the Giants act quickly, striking a two-year, $8 million contract with Jameis Winston. Meanwhile, the Vikings are pursuing another former Pro Bowl QB.

That leaves a pretty heavy link between Rodgers signing with Pittsburgh, which meshes with ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler‘s report that the Steelers are “aggressively pursuing” the four-time All-Pro QB.

At this point, barring some shocking last-minute surprise, Rodgers appears set to join what Mike Tomlin has been building in Pittsburgh for the last 18 years. That is, a team that’s always ready to compete for a playoff spot and ensuring they’ll never have a losing season. Rodgers would certainly help both efforts.
