In a rare intra-division trade, the Philadelphia Phillies announced on Friday night that they have traded veteran infielder Howie Kendrick to the Washington Nationals in exchange for pitching prospect McKenzie Mills and change.

Kendrick, 34, has put together an incredible season in a part-time role with the Phillies. The veteran is hitting at a .340 clip with a .397 on-base percentage in 141 at-bats.
A second baseman by trade, Kendrick has made 24 of his 34 starts this season in left field. He definitely adds flexibility off the bench for the first-place Nationals.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia acquires a Single-A pitcher in McKenzie Mills who has dominated to the tune of a 12-2 mark with a 3.10 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 18 starts. The 21-year-old southpaw has also struck out 118 batters in 114.2 innings on the season. He was an 18th-round pick of Nationals back in 2014.
