The Philadelphia Phillies are active on the free-agent market this offseason, even after signing Zack Wheeler, and are reportedly interested in All-Star third baseman Josh Donaldson.
According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, the Phillies are among three teams in the NL East, joining the Washington Nationals and Atlanta Braves, pursuing the star slugger.
Donaldson is coming off a season with 37 home runs, 94 RBI and a .900 OPS in the heart of Atlanta’s lineup. He signed a one-year, $23 million deal with Atlanta this past offseason and is now one of the most coveted bats on the market.
The 34-year-old has dealt with numerous injuries in his career, but remains one of the best hitters at his position when healthy.
