One of baseball’s oldest traditions is coming to an end. No, we’re not still caught up on the fact that there’s now a universal DH rule, instead, we’re focused on the Philadelphia Phillies.
Fans attending Citizens Bank Park have been able to enjoy dollar dog days for the past 27 years, but that long-standing tradition has come to an end.

Philadelphia Phillies dollar dog days are gone
On Thursday, the Philadelphia Phillies announced their plans to eliminate their $1 hot dog promotion for baseball games at Citizens Bank Park in 2024.
The biggest reason for the change seems to be tied to an incident that occurred in 2023, when Dollar Dog Night turned into a food fight, with spectators even throwing hot dogs onto the field of play.

The Phillies are instead turning the promotion into a BOGO Hot Dog Nights offer instead (buy one, get one). While the food fight may have something to do with it, the official story is that the Phillies said a fan survey revealed last year’s Dollar Dog Night as ‘not an enjoyable experience.’
“The introduction of BOGO Hot Dog Nights, in lieu of Dollar Dog Nights, reflects our ongoing commitment to provide a positive experience for all fans in attendance.”

“Unfortunately we had fans throwing hotdogs, back and forth and we just can’t have that,” said John Webber, Senior Vice President of the Phillies Ticket Operations and Projects. “It was not a good experience for our fans who came to the game last year. That’s the bottom line, and our goal is to change that and make it a good experience for all our fans.”
Naturally, this change upsets many fans who were planning to enjoy inexpensive hot dogs while taking in a Phillies game this season. So much so that a select group of fans have started a petition in an effort to change the team’s mind regarding the dollar dog promotion. Nearly 9,500 fans have signed the petition at the time of this publication, and you can bet that number will grow.
