Vic Fangio joined Mike McDaniel’s staff as the Miami Dolphins’ defensive coordinator for several reasons. First off, Miami wanted a veteran coach to call plays on that side of the ball for the offensive-minded McDaniel.

Apparently, the two sides agreed that the marriage just didn’t work. According to multiple media reports, Fangio and the Dolphins have agreed to part ways.

Fangio, 65, has served as a defensive coordinator for 20 seasons and a head coach for another three seasons. His wealth of experience and success seemed like it would be a boon for the Dolphins. After all, the widely-respected coach had led 10 top-10 defenses throughout his career.

It didn’t work out in South Beach with the Dolphins’ defense ranking 22nd out of 32 teams in scoring. However, they did boast a top-10 overall defense under Vic Fangio.

The question now is obvious. Where do the Dolphins go from there as they look for a third defensive coordinator in as many years?

As for Fangio, he could very well have a pick of the litter for coordinator jobs around the NFL. Though, it now seems that he’s headed to the Philadelphia Eagles to replace recently-fired defensive coordinator Sean Desai in that role.

Embattled head coach Nick Sirianni is seeking experience on both sides of the ball as he attempts to help Philadelphia overcome some major late-season struggles in 2023. At the very least, Fangio would provide experience and past success.
