It’s a tale of two offseasons for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Last year, the Eagles hit on nearly every move on their way to winning their second Super Bowl championship. Saquon Barkley became the ninth running back in NFL history to record 2,000 yards rushing and captured the Offensive Player of the Year award. Zack Baun emerged as one of the best linebackers in the league, earning his first All-Pro selection. C.J. Gardner-Johnson returned to Philadelphia and brought his intensity to a defense that sorely needed it. And Mekhi Becton resurrected his career under offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland and became one of the top guards in the league.
The only major whiff general manager Howie Roseman had was signing edge rusher Bryce Huff to a three-year, $51 million deal. Huff missed five games due to a wrist injury and only had 2.5 sacks on the season — seven-and-a-half fewer than a year before while with the New York Jets. He was also inactive for the Super Bowl.
However, it’s been a drastically different offseason this time around. The Eagles said goodbye to Josh Sweat, Milton Williams, Darius Slay, Oren Burks, Kenneth Gainwell, and Isaiah Rodgers, and traded Gardner-Johnson to the Houston Texans for offensive lineman Kenyon Green, a former first-round pick who hasn’t lived up to his potential.
The only major signings they made were inking Barkley to a contract extension to make him the first running back to earn $20-million-a-year and re-upping Baun to a three-year, $51 million deal.
On top of the Eagles counting on their young players to step up and replenishing through the draft, a team insider reveals that the franchise will be looking for bargain-bin pickups this offseason.
Philadelphia Eagles insider: Howie Roseman will search for ‘bargain racks’ deals

The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane reports that the Eagles are using the bargain racks approach this offseason. That’s been noticeable in the Eagles signing running back A.J. Dillon, outside linebacker Joshua Uche, and tight end Harrison Bryant.
“I’d expect the #Eagles to continue to shop the bargain racks for depth pieces with potential upside based on various factors, as they did with OLB Joshua Uche (late season trade/bad fit) and RB A.J. Dillon (injury),” notes McLane.
He added: “Eagles could still take mildly bigger swings in free agency, but imagine trade market is more likely if they’re looking for starting potential at edge, off-ball LB or safety.”

The Eagles already have their core offensive pieces locked in through the 2028 season in Barkley, quarterback Jalen Hurts and wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
Contract extensions are also on the horizon for center Cam Jurgens, All-Pro defensive tackle Jalen Carter, and edge rusher Nolan Smith.
It’s quite pricey to maintain that type of talent, which explains why the Eagles had to let players like Sweat and Williams walk. The Birds will be receiving compensatory picks for their losses, though, in the 2026 NFL Draft.
According to OverTheCap.com, the Eagles currently have $27.5 million in cap space.
