Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni has staved off a coaching search so far. As general manager Howie Roseman and team owner Jeffrey Lurie weigh his future, Sirianni is conducting an Eagles coaching search of his own for new coordinators.
The Eagles experienced one of the worst late-season collapses in NFL history. After starting 10-1, Philadelphia lost five of its last six regular-season games and was then blown out by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round.
- Philadelphia Eagles offense stats (Weeks 9-18): 199.2 passing yards per game, 11-8 TD-INT, 2.2 sacks per game, 82.1 QB rating, 6.0 net yards per attempt
Amid circulating Eagles rumors about whether or not Sirianni will stay, Philadelphia is currently focused on finding a new offensive and defensive coordinator. While things are relatively quiet on the search to replace Matt Patricia, one name has emerged for the looming vacancy as the Eagles’ offensive play-caller.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter has emerged as a serious candidate to replace Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson in 2024.
Johnson replaced Shane Steichen last offseason after Shane Steichen left Philadelphia to become the Colts’ head coach. One of Steichen’s first moves with Indianapolis was bringing in Bob Cooter as his offensive coordinator.

While Bob Cooter isn’t calling plays for the Colts offense, he is one of Steichen’s most trusted assistants. After a year spent with one of the top offensive minds in the NFL, Philadelphia could be attempting to recreate Steichen’s magic from the 2022 season with his offensive coordinator.
Importantly, a decision still hasn’t been made on Sirianni’s future. However, the Eagles’ front office is allowing him to search for a new offensive and defensive coordinator.
Examining Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator candidate Jim Bob Cooter
Jim Bob Cooter was once one of the fastest-rising NFL coaching candidates a few years ago. While his reputation has taken a slight hit as he’s bounced around the league, he remains a well-respected offensive coordinator and coach.
The 39-year-old began his NFL coaching career in Indianapolis, serving as an offensive assistant (2009-11) for both Tony Dungy and Jim Caldwell. Following that stint, he spent one season as a quality control coach with the Kansas City Chiefs for Romeo Crennel, served on John Fox’s staff in 2013 with the Denver Broncos then became the Detroit Lions quarterbacks coach (2014-’14) and offensive coordinator (2016-’18).

After being let go by Detroit in 2018, Bob Cooter spent two seasons as the New York Jets running backs coach and then landed on Sirianni’s staff as a Philadelphia Eagles consultant in 2201. He spent 2022 as the Jacksonville Jaguars passing game coordinator before heading to Indianapolis this past season.
