Philadelphia 76ers provide demoralizing update on Joel Embiid’s status

There’s no question who the best player is on the Philadelphia 76ers. Top MVP candidate Joel Embiid has been the face of the franchise since the moment he was drafted third overall in the 2014 NBA Draft.

It’s been a long journey since then, but Embiid’s helped the Sixers reach the playoffs each of the past six seasons. Of course, there have also been plenty of injuries along the way.

That’s the story this postseason, with Embiid playing in three of their four playoff games thus far. While the 76ers may not have needed their four-time All-NBA center to close out the series against the Brooklyn Nets, having him back for the start of the Eastern Conference Semifinals versus the Boston Celtics would be ideal.

Embiid is currently dealing with a sprained LCL in his right knee and hasn’t been able to practice. On Sunday, coach Doc Rivers suggested he didn’t expect to have Embiid back on the court for Game 1’s tipoff on Monday. For now, consider Embiid doubtful for Game 1.

There is no word on just how long Embiid is expected to be out. Previous talk hinted at Embiid possibly having to wear a brace on his knee for the upcoming series, but for now, that doesn’t appear to be a solution to help get their best player back on the floor.
