Peyton Barber surprised analysts when he decided to pass up two seasons of eligibility at Auburn and declare for the 2016 NFL draft, but the running back had an outstanding reason for the decision.
While at the 2016 NFL Combine, according to Andrew Mason of the Denver Broncos official site, Barber said his mother is currently homeless.
A big reason why Auburn RB Peyton Barber turned pro was to support his mother, who is homeless & currently staying with his sister.

Justin Rogers of MLive adds Barber was homeless from ages seven to 14 and has both dyslexia and ADHD.
Knowing all this, it’s easy to root for the kid.
After redshirting in 2013, the 5-foot-11, 225-pounder held a minimal role the next season. Last year, he replaced Cameron Artis-Payne in the starting lineup. Barber started hot, reaching 90-plus yards in six of the first seven games — including a 147-yard, five-touchdown performance vs. San Jose State.
However, Auburn’s offense stumbled down the stretch, and Barber topped four yards per carry just once throughout the final six outings. He tallied 1,016 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns, adding 11 receptions for 112 yards.
Per Michael Niziolek of the Ledger-Enquirer, Barber did not submit paperwork to the NFL Draft Advisory Board seeking a projection. That’s not a shock, since he undoubtedly would’ve been advised to stay at Auburn.
Barber turned pro to provide for his family. Hopefully a team will select him sometime on Day 3, and Barber will have that opportunity.
