After scoring just three points in the first half of play, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs found themselves down by a touchdown to begin the third quarter. Yet, after kicking off to start the game, the Chiefs at least had the benefit of getting the ball first coming out of halftime.

Unfortunately for the Chiefs, starting with possession of the ball didn’t lead to any success.
Patrick Mahomes continues to struggle
While Brock Purdy may not have a touchdown pass, neither does Patrick Mahomes. Yet, Purdy also hasn’t thrown an interception. Mahomes can’t say the same.
On the first drive of the second half, Mahomes and the Chiefs found themselves facing a 3rd-and-12 at their own 23-yard-line.
Mahomes dropped back and launched a deep pass intended for Marquez Valdes-Scantling, but the pass instead found 49ers defensive back Ji’Ayir Brown. For Brown, not only was it the biggest play of the young rookie’s career, but it was also just his third NFL interception.
Yet, being that this one came in the Super Bowl, off Mahomes, you can bet the ball will find a special place in Brown’s collection of memorabilia.
Here’s the play where Brown intercepted Mahomes.
PICKED! @49ers defense comes out strong to open the half.
