Pro Bowler Gerald McCoy to visit with Panthers, per report

Gerald McCoy

For a while there it seemed like a two team race for the services of Pro Bowl defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. Since being released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, McCoy has taken visits with the Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens.

Indications early Wednesday morning were that McCoy would soon sign with one of those two AFC North rivals.

Not so fast.

According to Joe Person of The Athletic, McCoy is slated to visit with the Carolina Panthers later this week.

This comes amid reports that the Panthers are indeed interested in McCoy. And it would make for one heck of a pairing with fellow lineman Kawann Short in front of former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Luke Kuechly.

McCoy’s status as a free agent this late in the offseason is interesting in that he’s taking visits like it’s March.

At 31 years old, the six-time Pro Bowler still has a lot left in the tank. The interest he’s received thus far on the market is indicative of this.
