Florida Panthers goaltender Spencer Knight has been placed in the NHL/NHL Players’ Association player assistance program, the league said in a statement Friday.

No reason was given for Knight’s placement in the program, with the third-year player demoted to Charlotte of the AHL on Thursday. Knight, 21, will be unavailable to the Panthers “for an indefinite period,” according to the NHL.

Knight is 9-8-3 in 21 games (19 starts) this season with a .901 save percentage and a 2.18 goals-against average. In 57 career games for the Panthers (49 starts) he has a .906 save percentage and a 2.91 goals-against average.

According to the specifics of the program, Knight will be paid while on leave and will not return until program administrators clear him to do so.
