The San Diego Padres placed Wil Myers on the 10-day injured list with a right thumb contusion and selected the contract of fellow outfielder Trayce Thompson from Triple-A El Paso.
To make room on the 40-man roster for Thompson, the Padres moved right-hander Austin Adams on the 60-day IL.
Myers’ IL stint is retroactive to Wednesday. He has been dealing with thumb soreness for much of the opening month of the season and reportedly aggravated the injury Tuesday. The 31-year-old was batting .218 with a .527 OPS over his first 15 games with three doubles and no home runs.
Thompson, 31, has played in just 15 major league games since the end of the 2018 season. He was batting .316 and had a 1.244 OPS at El Paso through 16 games with nine home runs. In 217 career major league games with four teams, Thompson has 26 home runs and 68 RBIs while batting .208.
