Newspapers are trying desperately to compete with online media, but the News & Observer might’ve taken its effort to gain a digital presence too far.
Joe Ovies of 99.9 The Fan in Raleigh, North Carolina, shared a picture of the N&O’s Thursday edition, which includes a column on whether Duke guard Grayson Allen tried to trip Virginia guard Kyle Guy.
But the accompanying picture is actually a paused video on Twitter.

The image of the paused Twitter video can also be seen on the N&O’s online edition.
“Befuddling” comes to mind about the paper’s decision to not use a professional picture of the moment in question.
It’s certainly a strange decision for a newspaper to pivot to video, but we’ll see if the bold strategy pays off.
