The NFL has sort of said something about the non-call that cost the New Orleans Saints a win over the Los Angeles Rams, fining Nickell Robey-Coleman $26,739 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on the play, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Basically, the NFL is officially admitting a mistake was made without making a public, official statement on the matter.
Saints head coach Sean Payton said after the NFC Championship Game that he was told by the league office that officials could have called helmet-to-helmet and pass interference on the play.
There have since been many calls for the NFL to amend things, including a sitting Louisiana Congressman asking the league to replay the game. None of that is going to happen, however, and the league has already moved on if we’re being honest.
