Nick Sirianni’s Philadelphia Eagles job reportedly on the line in Monday night NFL Wild Card game

A new report claims that if the Philadelphia Eagles don’t come home with a victory following their Wild Card Round game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night, head coach Nick Sirianni will be looking for a new job by the end of the week.

After the first 12 weeks of the 2023 NFL season, the Eagles were again the cream of the NFC crop. They were 10-1, had the best record in the league, and were a favorite to make a second straight trip to the Super Bowl. Yet, despite their impressive start, there were signs this was not the same dominant Philly team fans marveled at in 2022.

In the team’s final six games reality set in as Philadelphia went 1-5 and suffered embarrassing blowout losses to their top competition in the conference, the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys. It led to a play-caller change on defense, plus the offense struggled and was no longer able to overcome the failings of the defense.

Their shockingly poor play to end the season, as they coughed up the NFC East, has led to some doubt about Nick Sirianni’s future as the team’s head coach. Especially with various rumblings that he may have lost the support of his locker room. Well, it seems like he may be losing the confidence of his owner as well.

On Saturday night, veteran NFL reporter Eugene Frenette offered up an interesting piece of intel on what else is on the line for the Eagles in their game against Tampa Bay on Monday night.

“One former NFL coach with a strong connection to Philly told me he thinks Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie will pull the plug on Nick Sirianni if they lose Monday night to the Buccaneers,” Frenette wrote on X — formerly Twitter.

It would be a shocking move for the Philadelphia Eagles to bounce Sirianni after three seasons, a 34-17 record, and a trip to the Super Bowl in 2022. However, the standard for NFL head coaches is as high as ever, and even more so in Philly since they have been to two NFL championship games in the previous seven seasons.

This past week a trio of successful head coaches were sent packing by their franchises, including NFL legend Bill Belichick. Eagles vs. Buccaneers takes place at 8:15 PM ET and will be simulcast on ESPN and ABC.
