Nick Foles is preparing to lead the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC Championship Game Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. But based on some revealing comments it’s clear the quarterback was very close to calling it quits as an NFL player, not so long ago.
“After my time with a certain NFL team, I wanted to retire. This was a year ago, “Foles said last September during a video for a Spiritual series, per ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez.
Obviously, Foles is talking about his season with the then St. Louis Rams. Apparently, playing for Jeff Fisher literally sucked the love of football out of poor Foles, who started 11 games for the Rams in 2015, going 4-7 while completing 56.4 percent of his passes for 2,052 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions.
“I wanted to retire from the NFL, and I really struggled. I couldn’t pick up a football for about eight months. I had no love for the game.”
Eagles fans, and for that matter the team itself, is elated Fisher’s influence wasn’t able to penetrate the innermost recesses of Foles’ mind. He decided to give football another try, and now he’s going to be one of the main players in the NFC Championship Game Sunday for a chance to move on to Super Bowl LII.
Based on some recent comments made by Fisher himself, he probably thinks he deserves a pat on the back.
