NHL roundup: Zach Hyman’s hat trick fuels Oilers past Senators

Zach Hyman posted his third hat trick of the season to lead the Edmonton Oilers to their seventh consecutive victory, a 3-1 win over the visiting Ottawa Senators on Saturday.

Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner made 29 saves, and Evan Bouchard had three assists, giving him 27 points (six goals, 21 assists) over his past 22 games. Connor McDavid collected one assist to give him 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) during a seven-game point streak.

The Oilers have won 15 of their past 18 games and vaulted into the Western Conference’s second wild-card position, an impressive climb from where they originally sat — 31st in the league — before turning around their season with a win on Nov. 11.

Parker Kelly scored for the Senators, who have lost the first three outings of a five-game road trip. Ottawa has also dropped four of five overall.

Bruins 7, Lightning 3

Trent Frederic registered his third two-goal game of the season to lead Boston past visiting Tampa Bay.

The Bruins scored a season-high seven goals en route to their fifth win in six games, never trailing after a three-goal run in response to the visitors’ 1-0 lead.

David Pastrnak had a goal and an assist, and Charlie McAvoy, Morgan Geekie, Jake DeBrusk and Charlie Coyle also scored for the Bruins. Linus Ullmark made 23 saves.

Brayden Point scored twice, Nikita Kucherov had a goal and two assists, and Andrei Vasilevskiy made 20 saves for the Lightning, who have lost four of six.

Predators 4, Stars 3

Filip Forsberg scored two goals in the third period to help visiting Nashville defeat Dallas.

Gustav Nyquist had a goal and an assist, Ryan O’Reilly assisted on both of Forsberg’s goals and Kevin Lankinen made 26 saves for the Predators, who have won three of four.

Jason Robertson had a goal and an assist, Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn each scored in the second period to erase a two-goal deficit, Thomas Harley contributed two assists and Scott Wedgewood made 18 saves for Dallas, which has dropped three in a row for the first time this season.

Flyers 3, Flames 2

Travis Konecny scored the game-winner and Morgan Frost added a goal and an assist as Philadelphia edged visiting Calgary.

Sean Couturier had the other goal and Carter Hart made 22 saves as the Flyers, who halted a four-game skid, won for just the second time in eight games.

Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar scored for Calgary, which saw its three-game winning streak end. Jacob Markstrom stopped 39 shots.

Panthers 8, Avalanche 4

Sam Reinhart scored three goals to notch his seventh career hat trick, Carter Verhaeghe had two goals, and Florida beat Colorado in Denver for its seventh straight win.

Matthew Tkachuk had a goal and two assists and Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Kevin Stenlund also scored goals for the Panthers. Aleksander Barkov had four assists in his 700th career NHL game, Evan Rodrigues and Gustav Forsling each had two assists and Sergei Bobrovsky turned away 22 shots

Valeri Nichushkin and Cale Makar had a goal and an assist each for Colorado. Jonathan Drouin and Josh Manson also scored, Mikko Rantanen had two assists and Alexandar Georgiev had 12 saves in relief of Ivan Prosvetov for Colorado.

Wild 4, Blue Jackets 3 (OT)

Marco Rossi scored at 3:05 of overtime to lift Minnesota over host Columbus.

Matt Boldy had two goals and an assist, Brock Faber had three assists, and Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 saves for the Wild, who snapped a four-game losing streak.

Cole Sillinger had a hat trick and Adam Boqvist had two assists for the Blue Jackets. Daniil Tarasov made 33 saves.

Canadiens 4, Rangers 3 (SO)

Cole Caufield scored the game-winning shootout goal as host Montreal recovered from blowing a three-goal lead to beat Eastern Conference-leading New York.

Brendan Gallagher, Sean Monahan and Joel Armia also scored for the Canadiens. Goaltender Sam Montembeault made 45 saves in addition to stopping all three shootout efforts he faced.

Vincent Trocheck and Artemi Panarin each collected one goal and one assist and Adam Fox scored once for the Rangers, who have been middling for over a month with eight wins in their past 15 games. Goalie Jonathan Quick stopped 27 shots prior to the shootout.

Sabres 3, Penguins 1

Zemgus Girgensons scored the go-ahead goal at 15:22 of the third period and goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 40 saves as visiting Buffalo topped Pittsburgh.

Alex Tuch and Rasmus Dahlin also scored for the Sabres, who have won two straight and three of four.

Rickard Rakell scored for the Penguins, who have lost two of three. Their 43 shots were a season high.

Maple Leafs 4, Sharks 1

William Nylander had two goals and an assist and visiting Toronto defeated San Jose.

The Sharks have lost 11 straight and the Maple Leafs have won three in a row.

Mikael Granlund scored for the Sharks and Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 29 shots.

Blues 2, Hurricanes 1 (SO)

Brayden Schenn converted in the fifth round of the shootout to lift St. Louis over Carolina in Raleigh, N.C.

Nathan Walker had the Blues’ regulation goal to open the scoring. St. Louis has won two games in a row and five of its last seven, and is 17-1-0 when scoring first this season.

Teuvo Teravainen scored for Carolina, which had a five-game winning streak snapped. Antti Raanta stopped 21 shots as Carolina opened a season-long six-game homestand.

Canucks 6, Devils 4

Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller scored twice apiece for Vancouver, which held off two rallies by New Jersey to prevail in Newark, N.J.

The two-goal game was the second in three games and the third of the season for Pettersson, while Miller scored twice for the 24th time in his career and the first time since March 21, 2023. Goalie Thatcher Demko made 21 saves for the Canucks, who improved to 1-1-0 to start a season-long seven-game road trip.

Colin Miller had the first two-goal game of his nine-year career, while Erik Haula and Nico Hischier also scored for the Devils, who trailed 3-0 and 5-2. Brendan Smith had two assists, and goalie Nico Daws recorded 36 saves.

Golden Knights 5, Islanders 2

Jack Eichel and Nicolas Roy each scored twice as Vegas snapped a two-game losing streak with a victory over New York in Las Vegas.

Pavel Dorofeyev also scored for Vegas, which won for just the second time in its last eight games. Logan Thompson made 28 saves for the Golden Knights, who improved to 14-4-2 at home this season.

Mathew Barzal and Matt Martin scored for New York. Ilya Sorokin finished with 24 saves.
