Surprising NFL rumor may force Aaron Rodgers to make decision between New York Giants or Pittburgh Steelers very soon

A major NFL rumor related to the Minnesota Vikings may force Aaron Rodgers to make a decision very soon about where he’s playing in 2025.

The saga of what team four-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers will choose to play for next season has stretched into a third week. Despite looking like a diminished player in 2024 due to age and a serious Achilles injury the year before, the legendary QB has generated solid interest in NFL free agency.

Heading into the week, various reports have suggested the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers are his top suitors. And contract offers from both teams are allegedly on the table. However, the 41-year-old is dragging his feet on making a decision. While some have suggested it is just his mercurial nature, there have also been rumors it is because he is waiting to see if the Vikings come calling.

Well, a new report from NFL Network league insider Tom Pelissero on Wednesday may indicate that they won’t. And he could decide between the Giants and Steelers this week.

  • Aaron Rodgers stats (2024): 3,897 passing yards, 28 TDs, 11 INTs, 90.5 passer rating

Minnesota Vikings have no interest in signing Aaron Rodgers

“The Vikings have rejected multiple trade calls on J.J. McCarthy, telling other teams they’re moving forward with him as their quarterback,” sources say,” Pelissero wrote on X. “The team plans to add a veteran. But they’re not pursuing Aaron Rodgers at this time. McCarthy now enters the offseason as QB1.”

After losing Pro Bowl starting QB Sam Darnold in free agency to the Seattle Seahawks, then backup Daniel Jones to the Indianapolis Colts, there were rumblings McCarthy could be the Viking starting QB next season. The former Michigan star was the team’s top pick in 2024 and missed all of last season due to a torn meniscus.

With Minnesota no longer being a realistic option, unless Rodgers is open to being a backup — he won’t be — he may have to make a decision between the Giants or Steelers soon. Or those teams could decide to pivot to a different QB — like Russell Wilson — instead.
