NFL rumor offers new later round QB option for Cleveland Browns and New York Giants in NFL Draft

An interesting new rumor about a little known quarterback flying up NFL Draft boads may offer a potential later round option for QB-needy teams like the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants.

Last season was a disaster for both the Browns and Giants. Cleveland was coming off a trip to the playoffs and New York was hoping for a return after reaching the postseason in 2022. However, both teams went on a 2024 journey that tied them with the Tennessee Titans for the worst record in the NFL.

While both rosters had various weaknesses, their issues all go back to the same problem. Poor quarterback play. That is why the assumption after the season was they would use their NFL Draft picks at second and third overall on one of the top QBs in this year’s class. However, as we get closer to the event, more red flags emerge about elite prospects Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.

That is why there have been rumblings the Browns and Giants could pass on using a premium pick on a QB in April. But who could they take if they wait until Day 2 or three to draft one? On Tuesday, Bleacher Report NFL insider Jordan Schultz revealed a new name flying up draft boards.

“Louisville QB Tyler Shough — one of the fastest-rising prospects in the draft — has 10 pre-draft visits and four private workouts lined up with key decision-makers, including GMs, head coaches, and offensive coordinators,” sources told Schultz.

“At 6’5”, 220 lbs, Shough has displayed a strong, accurate arm and surprising mobility (4.62 40-yard dash at the Combine),” he added. “With the draft just over a month away, his buzz keeps building.”

  • Tyler Shough stats (2024): 3,195 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, 6 interceptions, 148.1 passer rating

The 25-year-old racked up a ton of experience in the college ranks during a NCAA career that began 2018. He played in 42 games spread out over stints with Oregon, Texas Tech, and then Louisville in 2024. In his final year of eligibility he had his best season by far. Throwing for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns and completed 63% of his passes.

There are players in every draft that impress at the Combine and rocket up draft boards. What makes him interesting is it would allow the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants to target the best player available early in the draft. Instead of forcing things by taking a QB too early. Various projections suggest Shough could be picked in Round 2 or 3.
