NFL denies DeAngelo Williams’ request to wear pink all season to honor late mother

Pittsburgh Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams sadly lost his mother in 2014 after a battle with breast cancer. Since October is breast cancer awareness month, the NFL allows players to wear pink accents and footwear all month long.

Williams, who holds his mother’s memory near and dear to his heart, reportedly requested to wear pink all season long in order to honor her. Unfortunately, the NFL denied Williams request according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

This was part of Williams heartfelt story he shared last October after losing his mother:

“What I try to get people to understand is it’s a 365 day a year thing. Once October is over, the breast cancer doesn’t go away. The sickness doesn’t go away. The chemo doesn’t go away. The hurt and pain that a family member fee, doesn’t go away.”

It’s terribly unfortunate that the NFL doesn’t see fit to bend on their current rule. However, Williams who dyed some of his hair pink last year, is still sporting the colored locks this season — something which the NFL doesn’t seem to interfere with, or can’t.

Good for Williams, and what a way to work around what many might consider too stiff of an NFL rule.
