Next generation Earnhardt wins first pavement race at 13

The next generation of NASCAR drivers from the Earnhardt family is well on his way.

Wyatt Miller, the 13-year-old son of Kelley Earnhardt-Miller and LW Miller, won for the first time on pavement on Saturday night in the Limited Late Model division at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina.

This is the second highest level of pavement racing in the Mid-Atlantic region behind the Late Model Stock Car.

Miller is the great grandson of Ralph Earnhardt, grandson of Dale Earnhardt and nephew to Dale Earnhardt Jr, who spent time racing at and winning on the .4-mile track known as ‘The Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars.’

This was the second time Miller has raced in this division at this track, following a second place two weeks prior. Miller has previously raced on dirt in Micro Sprint and Outlaw Kart competition, primarily at nearby Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury.

After coming up short in his first start, Miller captured the pole but ran second to Zach Bruenger for the first 32 laps of a 40 lap feature, at which point the leader lost his engine in a spectacular plume of smoke.

Miller led the remaining seven laps but fellow young driver Aiden King made a late charge and delivered a square shot to the back bumper out of the corner that the fourth generation Earnhardt was able to heold onto.

“We had a really good car,” Miller said in Victory Lane. “I was catching Zach, and then he blew up. I think Aiden tried to rattle my cage, but it didn’t work.”
