The New York Mets are reportedly interested in a rising star closer who has a unique link to the current roster.
This season has not at all been what the New York Mets expected and it has only gotten worse in the last week. For the first couple of months, the team dealt with a slew of injuries, and a bullpen that has been middle of the road at best. However, in recent weeks the offense has really struggled and things have hit a new low with their current losing streak.

To start June, the New York Mets have just one victory in their eight games and are in the midst of a seven-game losing streak heading into Saturday. The low point of this recent skid was getting swept by rivals the Atlanta Braves. And in all three games, the team blew leads in what was another showcase of the disappointing play from the bullpen this season.
The team is now four games under .500 and in need of help in the rotation and lineup and it seems they are already looking at options outside the organization to address the former.
New York Mets reportedly still interested in trade for Edwin Diaz’s brother
On Thursday, New York Post MLB insider Jon Heyman reported that the “Mets scouts have been tracking Reds star closer Alexis Diaz.” New York’s interest in Diaz is unsurprising since the second-year talent has only gotten better in his sophomore campaign and is 14-for-14 in save opportunities for the Cincinnati Reds this season.

The New York Mets were also rumored to have interest in Diaz last season as well when he would have likely served as a set-up man for his brother Edwin Diaz if the team had acquired him. Now, he could end up being one-half of a replacement platoon with David Robertson, since his All-Star brother is out for the season with a knee injury.
Heyman did not that a trade could be difficult since the Reds would want a very strong return of prospects and the New York Mets have been very hesitant about dealing their top young talent in trades.
