The New York Knicks have revealed the details of the current injury to talented forward OG Anunoby, and it could force them to make a trade before Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.

In December, the Knicks pulled off a blockbuster trade that has had huge ramifications for the team. Since adding 3-and-D specialist OG Anunoby from the Toronto Raptors, New York has been one of the hottest teams in the NBA and is the best defensive squad in the league.

  • OG Anunoby stats (2023-24): 15.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 1.5 APG, 1.8 SPG, 39% 3PT

However, the 26-year-old has not played since their win over the Miami Heat on Jan. 27. The organization had previously claimed he had been out due to elbow inflammation. But an injury report on Wednesday offered up more details on the injury and it is cause for concern.

Earlier today, the team announced that Anunoby would miss their game on Thursday versus the Dallas Mavericks as he continues to deal with bone spurs in his right elbow. While head coach Tom Thibodeau said this week that the forward was improving the recovery time for such an issue can vary.

In some cases, surgery can be avoided, but if surgery is required the recovery time could be as long as two months. The Knicks are already without star power forward Julius Randle — dislocated shoulder — and starting center Mitchell Robinson — ankle surgery.

There were reports yesterday claiming the team was interested in a reunion with Detroit Pistons bench player Alec Burks. There was also the suggestion that fellow Pistons swingman Bojan Bogdanovic could become a possible target for the team before the 4 PM ET trade deadline on Thursday.

This revelation about Anunoby could force the franchise to be more aggressive at the deadline to add depth to avoid a slide in the NBA standings while they wait for their front-court players to return.
